Going Out Gurus give mad props to my client’s records

Friday, September 28th, 2007

The Washington Post’s Going Out Gurus blog posted good reviews of both Georgie James’s “Places” and John Bustine’sWaltzes and Pleas” yesterday. Georgie James and John Bustine’s record label, Gypsy Eyes, are both clients of mine, so it’s pretty rad to see them getting good press. And, for what it’s worth, I agree. “Waltzes and Pleas” is the best record Gypsy Eyes has put out so far.

GeorgieJames.com launches… sort of.

Last night I launched a site for DC band Georgie James… sort of. There were some issues with the their server I didn’t anticipate and I didn’t have the proper credentials to talk to their hosting companies tech support. At 1:30AM I wasn’t about to call John or Laura (GJ’s masterminds) to get them either.

Anyway, the site is 95% done and looks pretty great. Nick Pimentel did the design and I did all the other stuff. The remaining 5% should be taken care of by the end of next week, but hopefully you won’t notice if you go there today.

Georgie James recently signed to indie powerhouse Saddle Creek and their new record just came out. Big US tour starts soon. Hopefully they’ll become super-famous and lots of people will go to their website.

UPDATE: Final site is up. Haven’t heard from Laura or John so I’m assuming everything is good.

Loft Pics

Finally got around to taking and posting pictures of the loft. After a month or so, I think it’s pretty much unpacked as it’s going to get. Bike storage is a bit of a problem and there are (at least) six dogs that live above and below us who don’t have the best owners since there is lots of barking. Other than that the place is sweet. Here’s the tour:

Loft - from the front door
This is what you see when you walk in the front door: Aaron’s light table and computer desk, assorted bikes and the dining room table.

Loft - my stuff
Turning to your right you see my drawing table and computer desk. The door to the right of my drawing table leads to my bedroom.

Loft - my room
This my room. It’s not very big, none of the bedrooms are. But I just sleep in here so it doesn’t really matter.

Loft - main room 1
Here’s the view of the main room looking back from my drawing table. Ben’s drawing table and computer desk are in the left foreground with the “living room” in the back. That door on the right leads to a half bath, aka my office.

Loft - main room 2
Here’s a view of the main room from the other end. Note the deer antlers hanging on the wall on the left side of the photo. It’s a sure sign this place is inhabited exclusively by dudes.

Loft - kitchen
Last is the kitchen (I skipped the other bathroom because it’s not that exciting and the rest bedrooms because I don’t think my roommates would appreciate me posting pictures of them on the internet). The kitchen is huge but lacks a garbage disposal. Note the Reagan Era island in the middle. The door leads out to the fire escape.

Exposed brick, lots of space, all in all it’s a pretty excellent apartment. The only thing that would make it better is a kegerator and a urinal.

Something in the air?

Last night when I got off the El at Damen and Milwaukee, a song from my friend Josh’s band, Revival, came up on my iPod. I thought “wouldn’t it be funny if I bumped into Evan right now (Evan being Revival’s guitar player and a slightly less recent DC-to-Chicago transplant than me)”. And I did. Cosmic.
